I guess you might have spoken to some big O flavoured guy. I am working
with Informix IDS, XPS and Oracle 8.0.5.1 Let me answer your questions

Informix is the easiest one to maintain. I was working one time with
Oracle DBA. He need to kill just one session for one particular user.
That user was running 15 sessions. You know how much time it took for
him to kill that session, 45 min. In informix it takes 1 min.
Anyway, do you know that how many V$,X$,DBA tables, USER tables, ALL
tables you have to play in ORacle to maintain the system????
In informix it just onstat magic gives you every thing.
Informix utilities are great like onparams, onlog, ontape, onbar, ISM
and all onstat options.

I am using Informix from last 6 Yrs. I always get a tech support
engineer to work with in a resonable time. Try with Oracle tech support
and then let me know.

I guess that Art S. Kagel told one time that Informix architechted in
this way. Stored procrdures are not supposed to write utilities but
normal sql. If you need to write utilities, use I4GL or Dyanmic 4GL or
ESQLC.

Maintenance!!!Informix architecture is really great.
It's the easiest i have seen to work with. IDS really give you better
control on MEMORY, CPU allocation to Informix b'coz of it's memory and
vp architecture. Also
it's optimizer and table fragmentation are great to work with.

I can only say that you need to talk to right people and evaluate
yourself.
