Read Cache, NUMCPUVPS
Posted in 1998
Hi,
I'm relatively new to Informix and have two
questions that I need answers to.
Sparc 20 running Solaris 2.4
Informix ODS 7.11.UC1
First:
I checked the instance profile last night (onstat -p)
and all looked great. dskreads, pagreads were both
very low, Buffreads was very high (2 billion and some).
My cache ratio was 99.99%.
Looked at the same stats this afternoon... Cache ratio
is 0%! Buffreads is a negative 2+ billion (-2051413361).
Nothing unusual in the log, UNIX logs, or application logs.
All apps, and threads running as normal. Response seems
as good as usual (by feel only, I have no physical stats
to back the feeling up)
Can someone explain what happened here? Are the numbers
"rolling over"?
Second:
Since this is a development machine, we decided to bounce
the instance. Great! I wanted to check out the effects
of adding a second cpu vp. This is a multiprocessor (2)
machine! I set NUMCPUVPS to 2, MULTIPROCESSOR to 1, and
SINGLE_CPU_VP to 0. When I tried to bring it back on-line
it dies. online.log shows...
"listener thread: err = -25572: Network driver cannot
bind a name to the port." It then PANICs and the log shows
"cannot wake idle processor."
I reset the NUMCPUVPS to 1 and it comes up without problem.
To make things even more interesting, I tried
"onmode -p+1 cpu" and it worked.
Am I misconfiguring something? Can someone explain this to me?
Thanks in advance,
