Re: HDR - Blocked C
Posted in 2007
An HDR secondary (IDS 10.00.TC3 on Windows 2003) hung in Fast Recovery (Sec) with Blocked:CKPT after a reboot. Suggestions to point TAPEDEV/LTAPEDEV at a null device and to run 'onmode -c unblock' didn't help. The online.log showed the secondary stuck after 'Recovery Mode' while trying to connect to the primary, and 'onstat -g dri' revealed the primary's DR type was 'standard'/off, i.e. it no longer considered itself a primary, so the secondary had nobody to talk to. The advice was to run 'onmode -d primary <secondary_servername>' on the primary and review its log around the point HDR stopped. No confirmation of success is recorded.

Hi Mike,
Thanks for your help.
I shutdown the server with oninit -ky,
In the onconfig LTAPEDEV was set to NUL
TAPEDEV was pointing to a file on disk, which I changed to NUL
I restarted the server with oninit
but it has still stopped in fast recovery with the Blocked:CKPT

Stu,
Have you tried "onmode -c unblock"?

What is in the online.log when the server hangs? Does it get to
this point?
17:17:41 Recovery Mode
17:17:48 DR: Secondary server connected 17:17:50 DR: Secondary serverneeds failure recovery
17:17:50 DR: Failure recovery from disk in progress ...
If it says something about reading logs from tape, you will
either have to supply it with backed up log tapes or restore a level 0
backup to restart data replication.

And what does the "primary" state in the online.log for this time?
and what does onstat -g dri state for both the primary and the secondary?

Well, ya primary does not think it is a primary, so you secondary is
talking to no-one :(
You could try running the following on the primary :
onmode -d primary ctlprime1_secondary
IF that is the tcp DBSERVERNAME or ALIAS of the secondary.
Have a look through the "primary"s log to see when HDR WAS running
(around log 112), and any messages from there on.
