Newbie to Informix

Hello, I'm currently working on expanding my knowledge and would like to work more on the database side of things. I would like to learn more about Informix, as a newbie, and would specifically interested in learning how to run queries from it. My hope is to eventually take the output of those queries to generate stats on a wall board from a Informix-based Call Center platform . Frankly, I don't know much about databases besides what people tell me about them (that they're basically just really big spreadsheets). I would like to know what kind of resources I should use or books I should read to learn more about Informix queries from a newbie's point of view and hopefully be able to expand that into SQL. Any guidance or direction is greatly appreciated.
Spreadsheet is one very simplistic view of the structure of a single table or the results of a single query in a relational database. To expand your understanding, start with a basic text on relational databases. There is a simple on included in the Informix PDF documentation set (the Database Design and Implementation Guide) which you can download from here: http://www-05.ibm.com/e-business/linkweb/publications/servlet/pbi.wss?CTY=US&FNC=SRX&PBL=SC27-3801-03 Art Art S.
