RE: Backups
Posted in 1997
Hi Pat,
We have a unix (HP70, 9.x) and informix (5.x). We run the continuous =
backup log from Sunday to Sunday (the day we reboot). We start it =
manually every Sunday to run under "continuous" by using the tbmonitor =
menu. We had to buy a DLT4000 for the Level-0 backup, which uses one =
40gig tape per level-0 backup. We were using the DDS with the 2gig =
cartridge, doing so our level-0 backup went to 10 cartridges. I believe =
you will not beable to run it in Cron if it goes to more than one tape. =
See other responses to your questions. The DLT4000 tape drive cut our =
backup time from 10 hours per backup to 2 hours... from 10 tapes to 1 =
tape. You can look at your online.log daily for errors. The Continuous =
backup is still running on the DDS drive, 2gig cartridge. The Continuous =
log backup does not ask for a second tape when running it for a week. I =
am not familiar with the 7.X version of informix.
My two cents worth, :-}

Hi there,
I'm new to informix and unix, so if the question is vague sorry in
advance. We are looking at the backup situation w/ the informix 7 .
We have 2 tape drives rmt0 and rmt1.
We would like to do a archive level 0 backup daily on rmt0 and run the
continuos backup on rmt1.
We would like to automate it as much as possible. Is there a way to
run the ontape commands in the backround, using the & or -bg or as a
cron job.
We want the continuos backup to run during the day and have it run in
the backround, with the output going to a file so that we catch any
messages. Then at midnight kill that job and start the archive level
0 backup on the other tape drive. Then in the morning when we come
in replace the tape and start all over again with the continous backup
running in the backround .
Can this be done? If so how ? (or where can I to refer to)
Thanks
