To do this and have it treated as a single distributed database on a distributed server you need the XPO (Extended Parallel Option) also known as IDS 8.xx. You can however, have independent databases on each of several servers and perform distributed transactions using Informix's built in two-phase commit features which take no programming changes. Just begin a transaction, update the various tables in the various databases on the various servers and commit or rollback. You can even setup local synonyms to the remote tables so that the code will see the tables as if they were local. Art S. Kagel PS - Didn't we just have this discussion last week? ;-)
Hi, everybody. I want to ask you some question. My environment is that the OS platform is SCO unix release 5.0.4, and the informix is online 7.3. I don't know whether the informix can support the distributed database. I have fulfilled that the program can access several databases on different host. But I want to know whether I can setup a database on different host. For example, install a space on host AA, and another space on host BB. How can I setup a database on these space? Can you tell me? Thanks.
