Re: Total users
Posted in 1996
Actualy, in our experience the 128 is meaningless. As soon as you reach 99
users your system will no longer allow any further attachments, it WON'T
allocate more shared memory for more users, and it WON'T give you any
meaningful message about what is going on. The number of users has not been
eliminated, just moved. When you set up NETTYPE [found in onmonitor under
Parameters/Performance] you can change to 150 users as follows:
NETTYPE
ipcshm 1 150 CPU
Your input to these fields will vary depending on the number of CPUs etc, so
look it up in the manual but include the 150 in the users column to get the
number of users you need. You will have to bounce your server, and you will
need more memory for start up.

Subject: Total users
(Informix OnLine DS 7.12.UC5, 150 user license on Sparc1000 Solaris 2.4)
This question is prompted by a certain nervousness caused by the following:
Last line of onstst -u (on a slow day)
85 active, 128 total, 99 maximum concurrent
(and, yes, most of these are 'REAL' user threads, not DS threads or some other
misleading count)
The Manual says (Administrator's Guide Volume 2, onstat -u description)
"The number of active users and the maximum number of users
allowed are also indicated. The maximum number of
concurrent user threads is specified as USERTHREADS in
the ONCONFIG file."
Our release notes state
11. The following configuration parameters have been eliminated:
USERTHREADS, TRANSACTIONS, TBLSPACES, DBSPACES and CHUNKS.
INFORMIX-OnLine Dynamic Server Version 7.10.UD1 allocates resources
dynamically for the structures that these parameters controlled in
previous releases.
Why is the "maximum number of users allowed" 128, and not 150?
The "maximum concurrent" is the dynamic replacement for the USERTHREADS
parameter, yes? This will increase as demands increase?
What happens when 85 or 99 reach the 128 total?
