If some one does have a copy (of my >write-up, or equivalent), could they please post it? Generic input array write-up: Basically there is no clean way to validate or change rows in an INPUT ARRAY. There are two work-a-rounds. One is a hack, and one is a mess. There is a hack, but is ugly. And it would be painful with pages and pages of data. Unfortunately, you can not use AFTER ROW to validate a row. The NEXT FIELD in an AFTER ROW does not work properly. It tends to leave you in the wrong row. Specifically, if you were trying to change rows, it lets puts you on the new row before changing fields. The standard Informix recommendation (see the book "Informix 4GL: Programming by Example") is to do all your validation in the AFTER FIELDS. They want you to check in the fgl_lastkey() to see if the user is trying to leave the row. This can involve a lot of code. The hack I mentioned above works like this: If the last field on a row is NOENTRY and you NEXT FIELD to it, you will move down to the next row. To move up, exit the INPUT ARRAY and re-enter it. Fro the top you can move down to the offending row. This hack depends on a very obscure feature, but it was documented in an Informix Tech Notes. You can probably count on it working till the get around to fixing the NEXT FIELD in AFTER ROW problem. -- David Stockel Internet: David.Stockel@snide.com of ADIA Information Technologies Fone: 215/834-8290
