Re: What happen to the "oldies" ?

Hi, Glad to see you have hung around for so long. Don't just be a "lurker!" The list is made of people who contribute. Most of the folks you mentioned are still around, they have just joined you in "lurk" mode. >[...] >helped us with their valuable knowledge. Where are you Dave ? Jack ? >(Did Informix shut you on a closet ? :( )., Lester ? Nowadays only >Jonathan (Big J, as he his know on our shop) keeps with us ! ! ! Only Jonathan? I'm wounded! ;) I had a beer with Dave at the last Informix WorldWide User Conference. Come to think of it, Jack, Lester, Big J and a whole host of Informix community heavyweights were there. The conference was *the* place to see and be seen. Jack came out of the closet (and you have to be careful how you mean that in San Francisco) for long enough to speak on Data Warehousing. Lester gave the first of many presentations of the IIUG track. His room was packed! These days he is so busy with the Washington Group newsletter that he doesn't take the time to respond to every cdi post. If you check the IIUG web site you'll find references to a big collection of sysmaster SQL statements that he has contributed to the public good. >Hell, i remember you guys from what ? a decade ago ? Back when >Informix deployed good products and didn't leave us alone in the >desert. Products that actually worked (and still work, and satisfy >the needs of many of us). >[...] It has been almost a decade. Walt started this list, the first database list under the comp.databases umbrella, in 1991 (if memory serves.) Back when Informix deployed products that you had to take offline in order to archive your data. Products that still work just fine, on DOS and--where where I first learned Informix SQL--a system called "Cassette Powered Typewriter." But seriously, though it has seemed painful at times, the strides that Informix has made have all been ahead of the competition (who are following as fast as they can) and just slightly behind user requests for even more change. Overall, it's a great company with a <emotional crescendo rises> great bunch of enthusiastic, supportive users. <strings fading...> Clem ______________________________________________________ Clem Akins (aka clem@informix.com) <- NEW ACCOUNT!
