PLEASE HELP - Segmentation fault - IDS 7.31

installed IDS 7.31.UC3-1 from scratch on a IBM E30 running AIX
4.3. No matter what I do I just can't get the server to initialize. Running
"oninit -i" returns "Segmentation fault" with absolutely nothing in the
online.log (as in empty)
I have tried different onconfig setting - I ended up with <1MB of Shared Mem
needed to initialize (According to onmonitor)
I have tried to deliberately cause another message (ie. Not enough streams
defined in kernel) by boosting some onconfig parameters but still it just
returns "Segmentation fault" when I try to initialize.
I set the SHMBASE value to the value specified in the release notes and even
tried setting it to 0 (zero) in hope of having the OS select the best
possible address.
However, I do not have a clue whether my problem has anything to do with
initializing shared memory. For all that matters I might have installed my
products in the wrong sequence. I installed 4gl RDS Dev, 4gl RDS Rtl, 4gl
ID, ISQL and then extracted both I-Connect and the server files from the
media before I ran "installconn -o" which was suppose to install both the
connectivity tools and the server according to the installation manual.
I could see from the permissions and ownerships on the "~/bin/on*" files
that the engine was not installed so I ran "installserver" afterwards.
Any ideas welcome

With 7.31 try
oninit -iv
The -v flag tell you what is happening as online starts...

Carefully check your shared memory-related kernel params. They all are
listed in /release directory. Also check if nettype entry in sqlhosts file
has network interface, supported on your platform.
