They called and asked if it was possible to get them back. I set up a test table with three rows in it, used a hex dump program to check the order of them and then deleted the middle row. All the data in the middle row was overwritten with 00. The data file size did not alter and the 'deleted' row was reused when a new row was inserted. This was on a SCO unix box running SE 4.10.???. This may have chenged in later releases. Therefore, in answer to your question, you could write a c program to look for all the records with 00 00 00 ... in them, comparing this with the total number of records. Peter Brueton
