RE: id10t error
Posted in 2009
I should follow this up. I was under the impression that my INFORMIXDIR had
been exported because my .bashrc file does so and I could in fact echo
INFORMIXDIR, and run dbaccess (which could only be found if the PATH (which
includes INFORMIXDIR/bin) were ok). Granted I am "su -" ing to informix to
start things (have not bothered with an init setup), and informix has it's
own .bashrc which also exports INFORMIXDIR.
Let's remove the "su -" from the equation. Yup, it is not getting the
INFORMIXDIR from the .bashrc export. Which does an explicit
INFORMIXDIR=/opt/informix followed by an export INFORMIXDIR.... or would ifINFORMIXDIR were not spelled with an I between the X and the D - as I was
saying: id10t.
Sure enough - fix the typo and everything is fine.

Subject: id10t error
Creating infos file ""...FAILED
Happened on my sandbox, I'd been ignoring it because IDS started and worked
just fine - just that onstat/onmode commands didn't work. Finally decided
to fix it, googled all over the place - there's this one guy with my name
who suggests exporting INFORMIXDIR before running oninit - but of course
that can't be the problem. But you eliminate all the things it can't be and
you are left with the only thing it could possibly be - let's just try
exporting that before doing the oninit. Whaddya know:
Creating infos file "/opt/informix/etc/.infos.mordor"...succeeded
What an idiot. The error was right there the whole time >""<, in other
words: "I don't know where to create this thing".
cheers
