"IBM Certified Database Associate" Training/Exam
Posted in 2014
A user preparing for IBM's Certified Database Associate exam (C2090-558) found that the officially listed study course (IX812G, taken as self-study SPVC 2x812G after in-class sessions were cancelled for low enrollment) didn't cover several topics appearing in the assessment, and asked for other study resources. Replies suggested Advanced DataTools' "Informix for New Database Administrators" course (never cancelled with at least one registrant), IBM developerWorks wiki material, shared 11.7 certification docs, and the Informix manuals. The original poster later reported that IBM confirmed the exam page was being updated: IX222, not IX812, is the primary course for this exam.

I have a reasonable amount of sys admin and database (primarily Oracle/SQL Server) experience and have been working with Informix for the last couple of years. I set a goal this year to get a certification and thought I'd start out with this IBM Certified Database Associate. From IBM's web site one exam is needed to achieve this certification; C2090-558. http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/eduC2090-558.shtml Based on information in the 'Test Preparation' section of the exam page, I registered for an IX812G in-class course in July, which was cancelled due to low enrollment. I then registered for the same in-class course in August which again, was cancelled due to low enrollment. I then chose the self-study option and proceeded with SPVC 2x812G. After a month of study (where I can fit it in, not full-time) I thought I was reasonably well prepared, and wrote the online assessment (A2090-558) last night. While I scraped by with a "Pass", unfortunately there were several items in the assessment not covered in the study material. I have just confirmed (I believe) that this is the correct ("Official"!) study material for this exam. I know it's not the best to rely on a single source of material when preparing for such an exam and this leads to my question: Can anyone identify any other resources or source material that succinctly covers the subjects on this exam? Exam objectives: http://www-03.ibm.com/certify/tests/objC2090-558.shtml Any info is appreciated. Thanks!
If you want training to take this exam and the other Informix specific exams (Informix Administration) you can take the "Informix for New Database Administrators" course at Advanced Datatools ( http://www.advancedatatools.com/Training/InformixTraining.html). Courses are never cancelled as long as there is a single registrant. Art Art S. I have received a response from IBM on this issue. They have now added "This page is currently being updated to reflect the latest resources and courses available to help you prepare for this certification test." to the exam detail page under the "Test preparation" section. In summary, IX222 and IX812 do have some overlap, but IX222 is the primary course designed for exam C2090-558 I believe (disclaimer - I have not taken IX222 - all I know is that IX812 does NOT cover everything you need to know!!!) Documenting this so someone else doesn't have this issue. Hopefully IBM gets the C2090-558 web page updated shortly!
