ESQL/C Ansi Compliance?

I was somewhat shocked to find that Informix's ANSI Compliance does not go so far to include ANSI-C support for ESQL/C. After researching the issue, a representative told me that there were no plans to add such a feature any time soon due to lack of demand. For issues of portability, I prefer to use ANSI-C for development, and had hoped using Informix's ESQL/C would make porting even easier. Does anyone know of an ANSI-C compliant ESQL package and/or some reason why I am being unreasonable in my expectations? I really do want to know, this is not a flame. I appreciate your input.
