Server Selection.

Folks, I am in the process of attempting to spec a server(s) to support a nationwide client-server application. The client side of the application is being written in PowerBuilder and the server engine will be an Informix Online 7.23 (or later) engine running on a single (set of) server(s). We are currently an IBM RS/6000 shop and are contemplating benchmarking an IBM RS/6000 S70 machine to run the central database server. My question is: What offerings are there from Sun or HP that would be comparable (or better) than the RS/6000 platform? The server(s) will be required to support up to 4000 concurrent users (worse case). We do not envision more that about 2000 concurrent users during normal usage. The mix is about 50% OLTP and 50% decision support (reports & queries). What experiences do you folks have with the Online engine running on the Sun and HP platforms? What have your experiences been like dealing with Sun & HP corporate?
