If you want to run some shell script in the backgroup without distorted your current screen all you need to do is... RUN "whatever command > /dev/null 2> /dev/null" WITHOUT WAITING which will run the "command" in background and send all output to the null device which will not corrupt your screen. You can also do a "DISPLAY ASCII 18" after your RUN which sends CONTROL-R to refresh your screen the same way if the user press CONTROL-R manually.
