Informix & c++ vs. delphi

We are looking at re-engineering our unix based informix 4gl character applications in a GUI client server environment. Some of the members of our staff are leaning towards Borland's Delphi, some towards Borland or Microsoft visual c++. The Delphi approach seems pretty straight forward. Has anyone had any experience writing c++ apps that access an Informix (or Oracle, Sybase, etc...) unix based database, specifically I am looking for database aware components, commercial or shareware.
