Translating with DrWatson… this can take a few seconds the first time.
This is a genuine, complex translation. DrWatson protects commands, error codes, and log output while naturally translating the surrounding text. It’s translated once and saved.
I have seen OSes that have had seperate functions to get the passwd
from /etcpasswd and /etc/shadow, getpasswd() and getshpasswd()
respectively.
I am not sure what the situation is on linux but this was a problem on
ICL I know thats going back a bit!!
this is online 5.10, that is also going back a bit!!
If Informix is making a call to getpasswd() and Linux is specifically
looking in /etc/passwd instead of /etc/shadow if you use that function
- as it did on ICL - then yes shadow passwords could be a problem.
