I note in the IDS 11.5 infocenter: "The dbspaces that you list in the DBSPACETEMP configuration parameter must consist of chunks that are allocated as raw UNIX® devices." Looking back to the IDS 10.0 manuals I see the same single quote... (well hidden!) I also note that windows can use NTFS... Can anyone confirm the above?
You certainly can create temporary dbspaces as cooked files at least on windows. But onpaces syntax don't forbid it on unix so I bet it can be done on Unix too. This is wrong in the manual. There were bugs open againts the SQL Reference the Administrator Reference and the Performance Guide, but somehow it wasn't cleared correctly. Simply ignore it... You can have temporary dbspaces in cooked files. In fact the DIRECT_IO descriptions (IDS 11.x) will imply this by saying they're not opened with O_DIRECT if they're cooked files. Big mess, but only on the documentation :) On Sun, Nov 23, 2008 at 12:54 PM, Jean Sagi <jeansagi.ifx@gmail.com> wrote: > You certainly can create temporary dbspaces as cooked files at least on > windows. > But onpaces syntax don't forbid it on unix so I bet it can be done on Unix > too. > > J. > > 2008/11/22 ROBERT CLOW <robert@clow.biz> > > > I note in the IDS 11.5 infocenter: > > "The dbspaces that you list in the DBSPACETEMP configuration parameter > must > > consist of chunks that are allocated as raw UNIX(R) devices." > > > > Looking back to the IDS 10.0 manuals I see the same single quote...
