Upgrading from 7.11 to 7.30
Posted in 1998
We are preparing to upgrade from 7.11.uc1 to 7.30.uc2. Our current environment is Informix 7.11.uc1 running on Solaris 2.4, although the development server is running 7.11.uc1 on Solaris 2.5.1. We are upgrading to 7.30.uc2 on Solaris 2.5.1. This application receives feeds from several other systems/processes. These processes are UNIX ESQL/C programs written in either versions 5.x, 7.1 and 7.2 of the ESQL/C client (these are part of other systems that are not being upgraded). We also do distributed SQL calls between 7.11 and 5.x servers. We have a variety of front-ends written in VB and Powerbuilder using 16-bit (Intersolv) and 32-bit (Informix CLI 2.5 and 2.8) ODBC connections. This message is to generally ask "how is the upgrade to 7.30 from 7.11". However, some of my specific questions are: How stable is 7.30? Is it better to go to 7.24 instead of 7.30? We prefer to go to 7.30 to take advantage of the new features. Can you upgrade directly from 7.11 to 7.30 (the manual indicates you can) Can you revert back to 7.11 from 7.30 ( the manual indicates you can't) Can you run 7.11.uc1 on Solaris 2.5.1. Production is running 7.11 on Solaris 2.4, however we would like to upgrade the OS before upgrading Informix so this means Informix 7.11 will need to run on Solaris 2.5.1 for a little while. Are the ESQL/C clients backward compatible. When we upgrade to 7.30. can the clients remain as they are? Any feedback/experiences you have will be greatly appreciated. We have an aggressive installation schedule and any gocha's/issues that we can determine up front would be helpful in planning the implementation.
