One thing to check and one thing to try: 1. make sure auto optimize is not turned on on the client side in your odbc config...if it is your database may be trying to update statistics in some cases due to it. I am not exactly sure what the name of this setting is at the moment, but it seems like its either 'auto optimize' or something totally similar and obvious. 2. do the following and make sure you do this in you maintenance plans set pdqpriority 0; update statistics for procedure; I have seen a problem where connections start 100's of threads and hang the server when "procedure" statistics are updated with a pdqpriority that is NOT zero.
