I learned this concept a while back. UNIX is the host environment, and I'd trust UNIX before I trust software that for the most part does stuff I don't have a CLUE what it's doing. I really like INFORMIX products, but let's not get carried away here. The data base user information is one step farther away from just going to UNIX and getting the login. How do YOU know just how current the data base information is? And what about shared memory? Are you going to trust the front door to guests? And what if I write an app that doesn't even hit a data base? Let's not get so data-base-dependent that all we can see are data-base-solutions. INFORMIX software sucks outside of UNIX, and it's only improved recently with Windows NT. UNIX or a damn good operating system makes the software great, but by itself, hmmmmm, I really have my reservations. I tried the DOS INFORMIX, and uh, it isn't so great. I'd be doing a different career if it wasn't for UNIX. It's ok to be wrong here. God knows I've made the top ten once or twice. :-) -- \\\\|// (6 6) ==============================---o00--(_)--00o---============================ Tim Schaefer tschaefe@encore.com tschaefe@shadow.net Encore Computer Corp http://www.shadow.net/~tschaefe =============================================================================
