This sounds like version 4.00 or earlier where Perform did not work on views, and that was the wonderfully informative message you got. (The other context in which you can get this message is when you have selected a list of rows, but between the time when the data set is generated and the time you step to the Nth row, someone else deletes the Nth row. In that context, the message is meaningful.) Unless you are running on a truly obscure (read ancient) platform, there should be a version 4.10 of the product available which will allow you to work on some views. ANSI SQL restricts the set of modifiable views, but one-to-one mapping views are modifiable. Are you by any chance from a DB2 background? In the Informix world, we don't normally use a view for a simple one-to-one mapping operation. We would for a sub-set of the rows or columns, or for a join view (though join views are not modifiable) Yours, Jonathan Leffler (johnl@obelix.informix.com) #include <disclaimer.h>
