Re: Using Memos in Windows

In <33143938.19522612@gate.idg.no> article, Nils Myklebust mentioned that: : This is a standard 4GL problem. It should have been in the faq, but I : can't remember to have seen it either. : : When you display a menu (execute the menu statement) it's allways done : in the current window. : Whenever you return to the menu so it has to be redisplayed (in case : it was somehow removed) the 4GL runtime will allways automatically : make the window the menu was displayed in the current window (as if : current window is ... was executed). The runtime have to do this, so : Informix can't change this behaviour. : The solution is to open a special window for the menu only. A two : line, 79 character wide window (some versions of 4GL have bugs so you : can't use an 80 character wide window) at position 1,1 with no form : should be used. : Then you can easily switch between other windows via menu selections. : You need do nothing special to the other windows as the menu window : will only overlap the two first lines where the menu should be anyway. : Thanks Nils. I figured you would come up with the answer. I found another way, which I implemented this morning, but will remove (it's a bit cludgy!). What I did was put the Menu inside of a loop. Each command ends with "exit menu". Once out of the Menu, but before the "end while", I test which screen should be active and reset the current window. That way the "new" Menu will open up in the correct current window. This causes the screens to flip 3 times on the first opening of the second screen, but after that everything works fine. Of course, your way would remove the screen flips. Much nicer on the eye! Michael
