How to disable KAIO ??

Informix 7.23 UC1, IBM AIX 4.1.4 How does one disable KAIO, apart from physically uninstalling it from the OS ? My understanding is that Informix uses KAIO by default, if it is supported on the platform. How then can you force Informix NOT to use it ?
