Strange Error doing init -iv
Posted in 2011
Brett Simpson's 'oninit -iv' on IDS 9.4UC7 (32-bit) under SuSE Linux 8.1 in VMware, with root dbspace on raw devices (/dev/raw/rawN symlinked under /database), aborted with a bare 'FAILED' right after 'Initializing 4 flushers', with no explanatory message in the online.log. Responders asked for exact version/platform and directory permissions, noted that MSGPATH shouldn't sit in the same directory as the chunk links, suggested checking SHMBASE against the release notes, and pointed out that the ONCONFIG requests roughly 1.7GB+ of shared memory for a 32-bit server, which the VM may not be able to supply. The thread records no confirmed fix.

Which version of IDS? Which platform?
Clearly, you should be getting some indication of what failed (either in the
online log or on stderr or both)...that is a usability bug.

Please post "ls -al /database"
In general, it is not recommended to put online log file in the same
dir as chunk links (MSGPATH)
