This is for Online 7.
Assuming tbtape will do what ontape does-and that might be a a poor
idea-you can get an identifier of an archive tape with:
dd if=<device> of=<filename> bs=5120 count=10
od -c <filename>
With these two commands you get ten blocks of tape info and then dump them.
The dump will tell you you have an archive backup, the online version
in use and a time stamp. While it does not tell you the archive level,
it does allow corroboration with the time stamp in your online.log
file(or whatever you call it) as the log indicates a timestamp and
level for archives. The time stamps should be within a few seconds
of each other.
