40GB limits?

We need to create a 50GB database on NT (IDS 7.30). Using raw space, IDS has a limitation on chunks. We can only use the first 2GB of every partition to create the chunk. We are not able to create a chunk with size + offset > 2GB (although this is not documented anywhere). The solution is to create partitions of 2GB each, and assign them drive letters. This creates 2 problems: The PC has a limitation of 4 partitions per disk. This means we cannot use more that 8GB per disk. We have 20 letters available (after floppies, CD, NT and a few network connections), for a total size of 40GB. Does this mean IDS on NT cannot handle more than a total of 40GB and more than 8GB per disk when using raw space? Highly unlikely. So, we must be missing something, but what? Can we create chunks with size + offset > 2GB? How? Any other solution? -- Bashar Chalabi CTL, London
Ummmm...get a real server with a real Operating System? Sorry, every so often I just can't help myself... Bashar Chalabi wrote: > > We need to create a 50GB database on NT (IDS 7.30). > snip, tale of NT woe...

Unlike Unix, under NT there is (alledgedly) no speed difference between raw & cooked - to quote informix tech support directly: "As a note there is no speed advantage between raw disk and cooked disk running on Window NT." (although this was for 7.23) We have 20Gb of Database sitting on one disk quite happily in cooked files.
