Hi to All
i need to backup logs automatically to /dev/null, how to do it please ?
the instance is blocked everytime the logs are full, i have to do ontape -a to
a file to unblock it, and the logs are not needed, we do a full backup daily
(L0)
thanks in advance
Generally you set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null in your onconfig and bounce the
informix server. Logs
will be automatically backup to /dev/null without having to run ontape -a
if the device "/dev/null".
While you do a full backup daily, log backups are used to get up to the
minute restore.

First the logs are needed if you want to be able to recover with better
yhsn a full day's data lost.
You can have logs automatically backed up either with ontape -c or by using
the ALARMPROGRAM to capture event code 23.
That all said just set LTAPEDEV to /dev/null and the engine will dicard the
logs.
