onbar problem in 9.4

I've got a strange problem in 9.4FC1 running on solaris 8. We testing
9.4 backups using Veritas NetBsckup 5.0. Prior to this version we
backed up all 64-bit servers to disk using ontape. Veritas calls
onbar in a script. Veritas runs this as root.
In troubleshooting I've discovered that I can't run onbar as
root...period. The BAR_ACT_LOG gives the following output:
2004-03-17 11:36:16 25032 25030 Unable to open connection to
database server: Informix Dynamic Server Stopped..
2004-03-17 11:36:16 25032 25030 /src/informix/infdir/bin/onbar_d
complete, returning 151 (0x97)
hbsdevshm:/src/informix:
The real interesting part is that all other commands work just
fine...onstat, onmonitor, onmode, dbacccess. This only seems to be a
problem with my 9.4 servers.
Anybody have any ideas here?

Did you configure the location of your XBSA library? Did you read the
release notes? Under older versions of IDS, the library was expected
in /usr/lib; under 9.40, the library is expected in $INFORMIXDIR/lib
unless you configure it elsewhere. This avoids having IDS place any
files outside $INFORMIXDIR (except on HP-UX with IIF and Java - but
that's a rather special case).
That's my best guess - did you look in BAR_DBUG_LOG? Did you look in
the online log (MSGPATH)? There might be information there.
IIRC, the ONCONFIG parameter is XBSA_LIB_PATH, but I've not reviewed
the release notes to make sure.
