Unix UID

Does anybody know whether the Unix UID is significant when a client establish a database connection to the server? For example, if at the server end, there is a user id called xyz with uid 100, at the client end, is it ok to have a user id xyz with a different user uid say 99? Will the server still accept the client as a valid user?
