Yes, I drove a BMW 750iL the other day, that was _way_ faster than Informix. :-) Individual applications have specific requirements, the only sane way to make a decision is to benchmark. I, for example, saw a genuine back-to-back benchmark last week where Informix lost hands down to Oracle. I have also done benchmarks where Informix has creamed Oracle (and everyone else). You really have to evaluate the technology against your specific requirements. Also, you need to review the technology against the business issues -- but one example is that your FD may say "Informix? Never heard of it, but I hear lots of people are going with SQL Server." You are going to have your work cut out for you. Also, does the technology have specific differentiators, like (for example) an Informix Datablade that you need where Oracle doesn't have a competitive cartridge. Or vice-versa. Have you selected a hardware platform? If you're looking at a mainframe, you're probably stuck with Oracle or DB/2. On UNIX you have more choices, on NT probably even more. Etc. > What are the trade-offs compared to Informix ? As compared to what? Anyway, HTH.
