CREATE PRIVATE SYNONYM

According to the release notes ENGREL_5.0 it is now possible to create a private synonym. I can get it to work with ISQL version 4.1, but not from r4gl or i4gl 4.1 - it just gives a syntax error at compile time. Has anyone managed to get it to work from either 4gl? I really need to use the statement to upgrade a system written on version 2.1 which uses synonyms extensively. Any help will be appreciated.
