In Online 5.x (+ I-Star, I'm sure you have this installed since it is the prerequisite for network access under 5.x), the client must indeed be "known" to the server, meaning that its network name can be resolved via /etc/hosts. AFAIK, DNS name resolution isn't sufficient, but I may be wrong here. Since you have dynamic IP address assignment with DHCP, you're probably out of luck with any I-Net based ODBC solution (like CLI). You should try one of the ODBC solutions that are server based, such als OpenLink or SQLRetriever.
