Informix-NET no longer exist as a separate product. Even if you are to have I-Connect for Windows 95 today, you still would not get your application to "automatically" connect to Informix. Your "soft" still needs to rebuild the API to use 7.20 TD1 ESQL/C for Windows 95 before you would be able to connect your application to Informix databases. However, when the application is finally rebuilt to incorporate 7.20 ESQL/C function calls, the customer may then deploy with only INFORMIX-CONNECT (Runtime of ESQL/C). 7.20.TD1 ESQL/C have the following features: - Support for 7.20 server features including GLS, thread-safe - Built-in connectivity (I-NET) - Renaming of ESQL Runtime to INFORMIX-Connect - Support for Microsoft's Visual C/C++ 2.x, 4.x* (ESQL/C) - Support for Borland C/C++ 5* (ESQL/C) - Compiler-version independence (ESQL/C) - Support for Win32s** (INFORMIX-Connect) - Support for MicroFocus COBOL 4.0 (ESQL/COBOL) - Support for the Windows NT/95 registry - Fully compatible with ESQL/C 7.20.UC1 for UNIX - Supports Winsock 1.1-compliant TCP/IP protocol - Supports the IPX/SPX protocol Like the UNIX version of 7.2x ESQL/C, Informix communications libraries are automatically linked into applications during compilation and linking. This means there is no additional product to purchase when connecting to remote Informix database servers. ESQL Runtime has been renamed across the UNIX and Windows-based environments to INFORMIX-Connect. This has been done to unify and simplify the products needed to connect to Informix servers. You will continue to develop with ESQL/C or ESQL/COBOL, which will have all the libraries and files needed to build applications. When you are ready to deploy the applications, you order INFORMIX-Connect as the runtime component needed to 'connect' your applications to Informix servers. (As a reminder, INFORMIX-Connect is not needed for you to develop applications.) INFORMIX-Connect is the runtime product containing all the connectivity libraries required for a Windows95/NT developed application (e.g. 7.2 ESQL/C, Powerbuilder, or Centura) to access Informix 5.0x and 7.x Servers.
