tunables and settings for IDS 11.5 on a ZFS file

Anyone have knowledge of how I should set OS tunables or any other settings(variables, ZFS files system settings) for a new installation of 11.5 on a Solaris 10 zone, with the Informix instance(about 4TB in size) residing on a cooked ZFS file system? I'm having trouble getting anything concrete for any important settings. Is there any way the cooked files should be laid out for I/O performance? Any particular block size, etc? Thanks!
Do you want to use a ZFS, AFAIK you can not turn off logging, and its not that quick compared to 'standard' FS. You might want to benchmark with a 'standard' FS Cheers Paul > Anyone have knowledge of how I should set OS tunables or any other > settings(variables, ZFS files system settings) for a new installation of > 11.5 > on a Solaris 10 zone, with the Informix instance(about 4TB in size) > residing > on a cooked ZFS file system? ZFS filesystems are a bad choice for database. Here's an excerpt from my presentation on storage at the IIUG Conference in 2012: ZFS Sun developed for Solaris and released as open source Uses copy-on-write transaction model rewrites are made to a different physical location than data came from and the new block replaces the old one in the meta-data. This causes chunks to become more and more non-contiguous (ie fragmented) over time even though the engine thinks the file is contiguous. IDS pages are substantially smaller than ZFS pages. That means many rewrites of the same ZFS page and many relocations that have to be cleaned up in the background. Not as bad as some journaled filesystems, but not good. Art Art S.
