Re: How to read Flat files from 4gl

Well Informix SQL may be called a variety of 4GL. But it is really a different product as is RDS. The 4GL product compiles using a C compiler to create object modules that are linked to create executables. RDS like SQL is run by an interpreter. RDS may be a "variety"; But; RDS is RDS not 4GL. The question was "How to read Flat files from 4GL?" not "How to read Flat files from RDS?." ---------- From: ilist To: internet!rmy.emory.edu!informix-list Subject: Re: How to read Flat files from 4gl Date: Saturday, May 20, 1995 8:53PM In article <3pi424$6pj@cssun.mathcs.emory.edu>, ancrcs4!cfrancis@ancrcs4.attmail.com ("Charles Francis") wrote: > > Kerry: > > Just how do you compile the Informix 4GL code for your > clients that do not have a C compile? There is a variety of 4GL, called RDS (Rapid Development System) that generates p-code files which are interpreted by an Informix "runner" program. It compiles quicker than the C code crank (love that term Tim) and gives simple cross-platform deployment.
