MY utils_ak package, available from the IIUG Software Repository, contains a
wrapper script, aspace, which we use instead of onspaces when we have multiple
instances on one machine. It keeps its own database of what disk space belongs
to what instance an will not allow one to add chunks that overlapp to different
instances. It even resolves links and stores inode numbers when checking so
that it cannot be fooled by hard or symbolic links. It has options to load
existing chunks into its database and a report utility. The documentation is
less than perfect so if you try it and have questions let me know.
Meanwhile, what to do. Calling tech support or restoring the instance from
before things got trashed are the best solutions. The only other thing you can
try to do is to create another instance somewhere with the same number of
chunks, shutdown the engine in the damaged instance, copy the first page from
the corresponding chunk in the dummy instance over the first page in the damaged
chunk, and restart. After that you may be able to drop the chunk. Altogether a
dangerous procedure and not recommended.
