I usually prototype my applications in SQL and then convert to forms. Sorry I can't be more helpful. The worst part about the SQL direct entry is that it does not run in the background. A long query means I cannot get anything else done under Windows in the meantime. Queries via forms, however, work fine and I can do email, word processing, etc. while the query runs in the background. Also, the SQL direct entry results window is not in clipboard-ready format. The line breaks are, I think, in UNIX style, not DOS-style. This makes it difficult to grab a few lines of text and dump it into a file for massage and manipulation. I cannot imagine using any reporting tool that does not let me do some direct SQL. Often, it is simply overkill to design superviews, forms, etc. for a one-time query. Also, are the plans "up in the air" or is VPPRO really abandoned as a future platform? I received a different message from Informix marketing last week that VPPRO will be included in New Era 3.0, but that no new R & D is planned for VPPRO. What's the REAL story?
