Install Informix 12
Posted in 2017
A user installing the Informix 12.10.UC9 trial (iif.12.10.UC9TL.Linux-RHEL5.tar) on CentOS 6/7 as root saw the console installer fail with "Missing license file LA_in / LI_in". Suggestions included an IBM technote about /tmp being mounted noexec (which the poster said didn't help), verifying the right download file, using a full Java SDK first in PATH, a simple shell prompt (PS1), adequate writable temp space via ISTEMP_HOME/IATEMPDIR, and checking the /tmp mount options with `mount | grep /tmp`. The thread records no confirmed fix.

Mouhamadou, There are a several problems I have found with InstallShield.. Often time the best way to find an answer is Google InstallShield with the error you have. There should be a log file that will have more details in /tmp or in the home directory but often that is not helpful. 1. Need to get it to use the right version of Jave. Download the Jave SDK, not just the runtime as I have problems with using the runtime and make sure it is first in your PATH. 2. Certain special characters in the users prompt will cause Java to error out. Try export PS1="$" to get a simple prompt. 3. Not enough temp space, it needs writable temp space in /tmp or exporting ISTEMP_HOME=/folder to some folder that the user doing the install has right permissions. I did a Webcast earlier this year demoing an install, a replay is at, "Best Practices for Getting Started with Informix by Lester Knutsen" at http://advancedatatools.com/Informix/Webcasts.html Are you doing the install as root? How is /tmp mounted on your system? If it is a separate filesystem you should be able to do this? > mount | grep \\\\/tmp tmpfs on /tmp type tmpfs (rw,nosuid, nodev, noexec, relatime) If "noexec" appears then you may need to remount the filesystem temporarily or you can try setting IATEMPDIR. If it is mounted with "exec" or is part of the / filesystem, the advice in the article won't help. https://informixdba.wordpress.com/2017/01/05/informix-or-client-sdk-install-no-j ava-virtual-machine-could-be-found/ Ben.
