Help with Dbspaces & Chunks?

I have a few questions about dbspaces and chunks. We are running informix Online 4.00 on a Sun Sparc2. dbspaces: o Do you need more than one dbspace? o Can you create just the rootdbs space and put all your tables and logs in it? o What are the advantages or disadvantages to having only one dbspace? chunks: o We have a 200MB unix partition. In that partition is a 150MB chunk. Can we add a new chunk in the remaining 50MB ? o Will the database automatically start using the new chunk when the old one is full. o Is it possible to reduce the partition using the unix format cmd, without disturbing the database? Any help with these questions would be appreciated. Thanks, MikeP.

No. But informix tells me it's a good idea to seperate your root from other dbspaces (another drive would be best for performance). > o Can you create just the rootdbs space and put all your tables and logs in it? The advantages: o If dbspaces span multi drive you will get a performance increase. o When you do an archive you won't have to back up system stuff from the root o Better organazation > chunks: > > o We have a 200MB unix partition. You can add chunks from either raw or cooked space. > o Will the database automatically start using the new chunk when the old > one is full.
