using Views vs Table

Hi All, Just curious, is there pro/con write SQL query using "view" instead the actual "table"? My programmer created many VIEW and he using those VIEWs in his SQL query. I wonder if using VIEW, it may cause performance to the system or overhead. Thanks for your input. --Wayne
If the view is a simple view, then it really won't cause any performance issue. However, if the view has additional complexity that the query doesn't need, then using a view will be more expensive. Basicaly a view is an sql macro. When the query is against a view, the query plan is expanded by the view definition. M.P.
