#>Do you know if tbload utility preserves
#>the dbspace in which a table resides?
#
#No, it doesn't. Indeed, one of its many uses is to relocate a table from
#one dbspace into another. According to the 5.00 manual beside me, if you
#do not specify a dbspace, the table ends up in the root dbspace. Blobspace
#blobs can be relocated into a new dbspace if required, and indexes can be
#renamed. Although the 5.00 manual is not clear on the point, you must
#specify either dbase:table or dbase:owner.table.

Please be aware of a couple of major bugs with this utility. If your table has
a constraint on it, either primary or foreign, the process of tbunloading and
tbloading will corrupt the constraint from an administrative proint of view.
By this I mean that the index created on the table which is used to enforce the
constraint will be preserved but the entry in the sysconstraints table will not
be recreated. As such you have an index which you can not drop (there is a
whitespace in the first position of the index name) and a constraint which you
can not enforce. I have tried everything from manually adding rows in the sys-
constraints & sysindexes tables as user informix to trying to manually delete
entries in the sysindexes table through dbaccess and dropping the index via
4GL. Nothing works. A word to the wise--if you're going to use this utility
to move a constrained table, drop all the constrints first and recreate them
later after you tbload the table.
Another fatal bug involves the movement of BLOBs. According the the OAG, if
you're loading a table containing BLOBs, you'll be prompted for the name of the
BLOBspace to store them in. I tried moving a table containing TEXT variables
and the tbload blew up. I believe the error that came back said something about
the inability to work with variables of type TEXT. I called Informix and they
did confirm that moving BLOBs doesn't work. I don't have the bug number handy.
Have fun.
BTW, I'm running 5.0 UC1. These bugs could be fixed in later releases.
