LARGE Informix databases??
Posted in 1993
We are currently investigating the suitability of the Informix Online 5.01 engine for the management of a very large organisational database distri- buted over a network of Unix mid-range systems. The application currently resides on an ICL VME mainframe. Working implementations of our projected scale are not yet in place in South Africa, and as such would appreciate hearing from administrators who have exposure to this environment. Our database is projected to be about 15Gbytes in total, distributed over 6 regional systems (interconnected via TCP/IP and I-Star) with the largest single component about 7 Gbytes in size. The structure of the database is relatively simple, but volumes of batch transactions very high. Without requiring any detail, we would appreciate hearing about real-world successes (and failures :-) out there. E-mail or news follow-ups will be monitored, and a summary will be posted if sufficient responses are received. Many thanks in advance. -- ...............................................................
