You can search the archives of the comp.databases.informix newsgroup for discussions of these issues at, among other sites, the web page of the International Informix Users Group at http://www.iiug.org . The bottom line, though, is that a few minutes spend drawing the layouts that you envision and reflecting on the pros and cons would gain you the most benefit.
