Upgrade to 7.11
Posted in 1996
We are planning an upgrade: Hardware: NCR 3455 Op sys: UNIXV 4.2.3.1 Current: Upgrade: ONLINE 7.10.UC1 ONLINE 7.11.UC1 ESQL 7.10.UC1 ESQL 7.11.UC1 4GL 6.00.UE1 4GL 6.02.UC1 SQL 6.00.UE1 SQL 6.02.UC1 No change in operating system. Questions: 1) Has anyone gone through this and if so what advice could you give me? 2) How long for install of new software? 3) Is it necessary to recompile? Our local guru recommends yes. Informix tech support thought not initially necessary. He suggested that because the rev level change was not great AND because we ware NOT changing the operating system, that we are probably safe in not recompiling at first. (I would recompile at some later scheduled date.) Your thoughts? 4) One of our systems using 5.0 code connects to 7.1 via Relay Module. Is there anything to look for in this environment that might be tricky? 5) Informix tech support faxed me "Release Notes for 7.11.UC1 Release 9/19/95" It says, "No database changes occur between 7.10.UC1 and 7.10.UD1" Considering that I am skipping the "UD1" phase, is this true for "7.10.UC1 and 7.11.UC1"? 6) If we have a problem, it is our intent to copy back to "/usr/informix" either a full copy from disk or from tape of the original INFORMIX files. If we initialize with the 7.11 executable, will changes made be incompatible with the old executables if we perform the aforementioned "restore"? If so, do we have to perform a full restore from our archive to work with our 7.10.UC1 ONLINE and ESQL executables? 7) Is there new documentation available for 7.11.UC1 Online and ESQL/C? Please post and e-mail your thoughts and suggestions. Thank you, Paul Finkel -- Do unto others ... then split! MaryAnne Stasium
