Error initializing the engine

I'm installing an old version, 9.20HC3 on an HP-UX 11.11 platform. We are
trying to bring an old machine back to life for disaster recovery needs. I
installed the product just fine, but when I run oninit iv, I get the error
below:
/usr/informix->oninit -iv

oninit: Fatal error in initializing ASF with 'ASF_INIT_DATA' flags; asfcode =

It initialized ASF fine, but what about these flags?
finderr -25580
-25580 System error occurred in network function.
What network function errored?
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
most likely this is some kind of configuration problem.
Check the setup of your $ONCONFIG file (DBSERVERNAME,
DBSERVERALIASES, NETTYPE parameters), your
$INFORMIXSQLHOSTS file (check for the correct protocol,
i.e. what is supported in the release on this platform),
crosscheck protocols against the "Machine Specific
Notes" ($INFORMIXDIR/release/en_us/0333/...).
If you find an "unsolicited" NETTYPE entry in your $ONCONFIG
(i.e. one that has no parameters or no corresponding entry
in your $INFORMIXSQLHOSTS file), then remove it (or at least
comment it out with a '#' in first column).
Unfortunately I can't tell you more specifically, what function
suffered from which error exactly.
Regards,
Martin

Verify that the host and service are correct in the sqlhosts file and that the
service is registered in /etc/services. Also, though the 'service' for onipcshm
connections is a dummy it must not be the same as some network connection uses.
Best not to use a real servicename at all. Last make sure that the host is all
lower case and that it is the host's primary name and not an alias, some
versions of IDS and the connectivity tools have had trouble using hostname
aliases and 9.20 is an old version.
