Informix 7.2 on Caldera ?

I have purchased a copy of Informix and am trying to install it on Caldera 2.2. Everything will unpack from the rpm files except IDS.rpm. It says it needs a dependency libcrypt.so.1 which is not on the system. The glibc is listed as installed. If you have a suggestion that would help please post or email me. Thank you, Lyn Stewart lstewart@altaserv.com

The Informix install needs this as some of the install executables informix uses (brand, for example) needs to link this library in. What I did to get the install to work on Caldera 2.2 was to grab a copy of libcrypt.so.1 from a Red Hat 5.2 distribution I had and plop it onto the Caldera system. That got me past the install. Once it is up, the tcp/ip connection to the database would not work in any configuration under Caldera 2.2. Shared memory connections were fine. What we finally had to do was download the source for the 2.2.10 version of the kernel from ftp.linux.org and rebuild with this new version. Once we booted that, the tcp/ip connection worked fine. Kind of a pain, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do ;-) Dave Dave Kosenko (posting from home) Currently teaching folks everything I know about Informix at Summit Data Group (an Informix Authorized Education Center) For more info, see http://www.summitdata.com ********** "Everybody plays the fool, sometimes."
Yeah but Dave, Did ESQLC and 4GL and ISQL install and work? I realize many man not need or want these, but they are also important to many of us. If you get these to install, and they work, I'd love to know. Caldera has a great release, it was a real bummer that IFMX would work with the 2.2.5 kernel, etc. Thanks, Tim David Kosenko wrote: > > Also sprach lynwood <lynwood@nwlink.com> : > > :I have purchased a copy of Informix and am trying to install it on > :Caldera 2.2. I could not get c4gl to work right. I got it to compile by specifying -shared on the command line, otherwise it complained about unresolved references to crypt. But the resulting executable just seg faulted on me - no idea why. Pcode ran like a charm though, as did esql/c executables. Again, let me stress that the test system in question had a newly-built 2.2.10 kernel, not the stock Caldera kernel.
