First off I know 9.4 is old and no longer supported. I am trying to convince my company to upgrade to the latest IDS 11 and not go to SQL server (sigh...) we currently have 9.4 on suze 8 with a dedicated external disk array and raw chunks. I have been told to evaluate 9.4 with VMWare and SAN storage. What is the best way (and fastest) way to access chunks on a SAN ? thanks
Be very careful to test this thoroughly. There have been serious performance problems reported using SAN storage for databases on VMWare. There is a White Paper at IBM with some tips and help and I know that IBM and VMWare were working together to determine the bottlenecks and relieve them since I last tested this (about 18 months ago). I have not seen the same problems with Sun Solaris or AIX LPAR system partitioning, however, only with VMWare. Art Art S.
