7.30 Performance problems
Posted in 1998
We upgraded to 7.30 this past weekend and have noticed performance problems with some queries.
Most notably, queries that utilize MATCHES or LIKE are now VERY slow compared to what they were
on 7.22 (I've opened a case with Informix on this). I have optcompind set to 0 (it was at 2)
and optimization has been attempted at both first and all rows with little discernable
difference. I've yet to see the promised "30% increase in speed right out of the box" though
some things DO run faster than before.
I seem to be having a problem with my update statistics script (I think) so that may be part of
the problem. I dropped all distributions after the upgrade and let our nightly process run the
update statistics to recreate the distributions. The script says it finishes successfully and
in fact takes the same amount of time it did before to complete. However, when I look insysdistrib (that's the right place, right?), there is no data! If I update for a specific table
by hand using ISQL, the data appears in sysdistrib. I've since run the update on all tables (by
hand, my nightly process still seems to have problems which I can't figure out since it worked
before!) but I'm still having performance problems on queries.
Anybody seen anything like this or have any ideas?
I'm running 7.30.UC3-1 on Dynix/ptx 4.4.2.
